What we’ve been up to...

Autumn 2017 saw us give tours to exotic locations such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and China, as well as the first instalment of a series of recitals at the National Concert Hall, Ireland. We also held our 5th Fidelio Trio Winter Chamber Music Festival, which we always look forward to as it has a sense of home-coming about it in the atmospheric setting of the Georgian Library at Dublin City University.

We performed Beethoven Triple Concerto three times, including with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, South Africa.

Sold out performances in Harare, Zimbabwe, and playing in huge concert halls in China reaffirmed our belief that there is still a real appetite around the world for classical chamber music.

During 2017 we were invited to record two Piano Trios by Philip Glass at Dolan Music Recording Studios, New York City. With award winning record producer Michael Riesman we made the first ever recording of Philip Glass’s early 1967 piano trio ‘Head On’ which is now available on Apple Music. We also put down a wonderful new work for piano trio by Philip Glass, ‘Pendulum’ which will be released early in 2018 on his Orange Mountain label.

Other major new works we helped commission and premiere in 2017 included Piano Trio No.2 by seminal British composer Alexander Goehr at Swaledale Festival and Le Tombeau des Regrets, Piano Trio No.3 by legendary South African composer Kevin Volans which we unveiled at our own Winter Chamber Music Festival including an illuminating interval interview with Kevin.

Also during 2017 we collaborated with the wonderful viola soloist Rachel Roberts and performed Piers Hellawell/Sinead Morrissey’s ‘Up by the Roots’ with renowned Irish actor Adrian Dunbar of In the Line of Duty fame.
Our recent recordings continue to be widely praised in the music press:

“The Fidelio’s interpretation possesses admirable clarity and definition, polish and brio, qualities they bring also to a very different world of sound in the Ravel Trio. In both works their interpretative touch is secure, their rapport instinctive. Together with their eloquence and passion, this all adds up to something special.”

Gramophone Magazine, November 2016

“The trio’s playing on this new CD of music by Rhona Clarke is outstanding. Not only are they a hugely proficient ensemble, but are willing to perform solo pieces with equal proficiency.”

What’s coming up...

2018 highlights include an extensive tour of China, concerts in the USA and Turkey.

We are excited to continue our ongoing relationship with Resonus Classics, recording more French Piano Trios – to include Faure D Minor Trio and Chausson Trio in G Minor and new arrangements of Satie’s music especially arranged for us by Satie enthusiast John White.
We are also looking forward to a special recording project of Irish Maverick composer Gerald Barry’s chamber music on the celebrated New York based contemporary Music label Mode Records.

Another project we are fundraising for is an unique new work titled Whitelessness, based on poetry by award winning poet Sinead Morrissey. It will feature the trio performing with uilleann piper Cillian Vallely of Irish traditional supergroup Lunasa, with spoken word from Sinead Morrissey herself.

A hothouse of composers writing for the project include Bill Whelan (Riverdance), Vyvienne Long (Damien Rice), Donnacha Dennehy, Linda Buckley, Peadar O Riada, Micheal O Suilleabhain and Neil Martin.

This is a really exciting new venture for us – the first ever music to be written for uilleann pipes and piano trio!

We continue to explore our core repertoire with many cycles of Schubert Trios, not least including recently a series at Kilkenny Arts Festival in 2017, and are delighted to have been invited next year to perform and record Beethoven Triple Concerto with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland.

We are so grateful to all our audiences across the world for your enthusiastic support and we are now launching a new fund-raising programme for all of us so that we can all work together to develop the great music we have for the piano trio ( just follow the link in the side panel or HERE ).

We look forward to meeting you at a concert soon!
